Simple Recipe- Homemade Maple Syrup
This might seem taxing to make your own, but its really not. And the savings are truly worth it if you eat a lot of things that require syrup. I certainly do in my family, because things like pancakes, french toast and waffles are delicious, cheap and filling foods.
Just to give you a little cost analysis on this-
Homemade- 25 cents
Generic Store Brand- 1.99
Mrs. Butterworth’s- 3.29
You only have to buy the maple extract once and it will last you a long time. Things like this are also nice because it is one less thing you have to put on your grocery list. Pretty much everything on those grocery aisles, while not always cheaper to make yourself, come from a handful of basic ingredients. Keep the basics on hand and you will always be able to make just about anything.
So here it is-
2 cups sugar
1 cup of water
1 tsp. maple extract
Put the sugar and water in a small pan and bring to a boil slowly over low heat. Stir constantly and remove from heat before it comes to a rolling boil. It will crystallize if it gets that hot. Stir in maple extract and store (reusing the bottle from the last syrup you bought is great. Just wash and dry before making your syrup. Keep in fridge.
